When I was 8 years old my parents set me up with a little inflatable raft with a 4HP outboard. I would spend hours fishing and crabbing from that boat. I spent so much time on it, that I barely had any friends at the time. You could see me out zooming around the lagoon from sun up to sun down.
At the age of ten my Dad introduced me to canyon fishing. We would run 70-80 miles offshore to troll the canyons of the continental shelf. It was here that I experienced the lure of tuna, dolphin, wahoo, and billfish. This is when I knew that fishing would be a part of my life for good.
As I grew older and gained more experience, I was offered my first job. It was as a mate on a 35’ sport fishing boat. My responsibilities included maintaining the boat and making the necessary preparations for trips.(fuel, food, bait, tackle, etc.) I continued with other jobs like this throughout my teenage years and continued to gain more and more valuable fishing knowledge.
When it came time to make a decision on college, fishing was a part of the equation. It’s what led me to Flagler College and St. Augustine, FL. I could leave my dorm room and be casting for redfish, flounder, and trout within minutes! It was a perfect fit!
I have been fishing the local waters here since 1995. I’ve fished inshore, offshore, and everything in-between. St. Augustine truly has an outstanding fishery and I love to share all I know about it with others. Whether it be stories, tips, or techniques, I am always excited to talk fishing!
